Cotton Candy - Outfit of the Day 05/26/11

It's gotten really hot, really fast where I live. Not even June, and we are having an entire week of 90 degree weather. I like to wear skirts a lot in summertime, especially a light one like the one I'm featuring below, because it keeps you super cool...or at least tries, haha. Also, the name comes from the fact that it is light and floaty, but also has pastel tye-dye.

Makeup was pink cheeks, pink lips, then pink and purple shadow.

Skirt by etc.
Shirt from Forever21
Shoes are Dexter from Payless
Earrings and necklace: handmade, and gift from grandparents.

Hope you enjoyed!

Summer Reading Begins

Hey!
First of all, sorry about not posting anything in the past week. I will admit, it was part lazy-ness, plus I just got super tired of being on the computer while we are having such awesome weather here where I live, (well, for me at least. I love the heat, almost everyone else I know...not so much.) that I went to the library and bookstore to get started on my summer reading, and have been wrapped up in reading book after book while chilling on the porch with my iPod and sweet tea. I actually am starting my 4th book in a week today. I LOVE reading. Last year I had a goal to read 5000 pages, but unfortunately, I only got to about 2000 because I kinda ran out of books at the library, and my babysitting income wasn't so great then either, so I couldn't buy lots of books. But luckily this year, I have discovered a new author and have some spare cash to feed my obsession as well.
The new author that I have been loving is Deb Caletti.  I was looking in my local bookshop and saw her books, picked one up and read a review on the cover that said "Reminiscing of Sara Dessen's best work" and I was immediately sold, because my favorite author is Sara Dessen. (Who has recently come out with a new book that I purchased, and will start on today.) I am very pleased to have found her books. Although I don't think anyone can quite touch Sara Dessen, these books come pretty close. So far I have read Honey, Baby, Sweetheart and The Fortunes of Indigo Skye. The first is about a shy girl, who falls for the good-looking, rich, thrill-seeking boy who she knows is no good.  A good book with a great lesson hidden there. Pfft, who needs boys?
The latter was really interesting, and I found it very hard to put down. A girl who works in a small-town cafe, where everyone knows everyone, is intrigued by the Vespa guy, an irregular customer who comes in and orders just coffee, that all the regulars are trying to figure out. The girl decides to dig deeper and figure out his story....resulting in a two and a half-million dollar tip.

I was just on amazon trying to order all of her other novels, as I know they will keep me intrigued this summer.

Also, another book I picked up on a whim is Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. Most of you probably know the movie. I saw the trailer, but never watched it, but little did I know it was a book too. A great book, quite short though. I finished it within a day. But a fun one, nonetheless.

Still waiting to be read are of course, the new Sara Dessen book, What Happened To Goodbye, and another by Rachel Cohn, "Two Steps Forward" and "Audrey, Wait!" by Robin Benway.

Summer reading Goal: 5000 pages.
Books read: 3
Page total:  789

I hope you readers find this helpful, and also, I would love feedback! I'm going to try to not stick to just beauty posts.
Seeya later!

Antiqued

I saw a girl downtown once. She was wearing a few simple things: Leggings, oversize white shirt, and a belt. Super simple, yet made a huge statement to me. Ever since I saw her outfit, I have been on the hunt for a reasonably priced, oversize white shirt that came long enough so my butt wouldn't show. A little over a week ago at my fave consignment store (YES again, hahaha) I found it! It's a large collared shirt, that is like a classic button down, but without the buttons going all the way up, felt more relaxed. While trying it on in the dressing room I was already planning out on my head, what makeup I'll wear, the jewelry, shoes and all that. I was so freaking exited! I May seem kinda crazy, obsessing over this outfit, but this will be a go-to outfit for me for years to come, because the leggings, white shirt and belt are basically staples in lots of girls closets, but put together is polished, but not too overdone, or makes you feel like you can't wait to take them off and put on your pj's at the end of the day. You know what I mean? For a classic look I would have done simple black winged liner and red lips with more simple jewelry, but I decided to put some of my good antique jewelry to use. It instantly made me feel like I was wearing a more vintage-y look. Here are the pictures below, and I hope it inspires you as much as it did I.

For hair, I just pulled it all back and pinned it up and out of the way, to show off the earrings. (That I made, btw =D )

Makeup was a gold shadow with a dark green in the outer V and crease, light blush and (I forgot to put it on here) Maybellene lipstick in Blushing Brunette.

Also, sorry about the lack of blogs! I went on to blog last week and It said blogger was unavailable right now =( So when it was finally back up, I was too busy with other stuff. I'm going to try and have a bunch of posts ready from now on so I can stay consistent.

Hope you enjoyed!!

Leggings and shirt: I don't really know...They aren't known brands though.
Belt, broach, and bracelet - All vintage
Earrings - I made myself
Shoes - Pesaro from Rack Room Shoes
Also I don't ever include it in these little descriptions, but the necklace that I am always wearing with the leather cord, key, and "S" charm is something I almost never take off. I found the key in my backyard, that used to be a hotels junkyard back in the old days, and the "S" charm is by Waxing Poetic that my parents for me for my 15th birthday. Just a little inside scoop there xD

Seeya soon!!

Pretty Tough - Outfit of the Day 5/10/11

Hey! I was feeling girly today, so I wanted lots of pink. I reached for my pink tie-dye skirt, pink hair-bow, and then to add a tough funky edge to it, my pink converse high tops. (Which I purchased for $14 at my local resale shop...SCORE!)
I felt pretty tough wearing my converse and having my butterfly henna tattoo on! haha, here are the pictures =)

The butterfly henna tattoo I got at the beach!

For makeup, I put on a little light pink eyeshadow, then silver eyeliner, then hot pink lips! I used my new Covergirl LipPerfection lipstick in temptress. LOVE it!!

And my adorable skull earrings!

Hope you enjoyed!!

Beach Trip

Hey!!
This past Sunday, my family decided to surprise our dad by taking him to the beach for his birthday. Unfortunately, someone spilled the beans, so it wasn't as much of a surprise as we wanted it to be, but it was still tons of fun I didn't get a lot of pictures, but here are some of the better ones.

The seagulls would dive down and take chips from our hands! It was super cool.

Excuse the person putting their shorts on in the background xD It was the only time I could get this photo they moved a second later.

A cool Venus fly trap statue downtown where were were visiting,

Me in my new white linen pants....covered in chocolate ice cream. I warn you, no matter how careful you promise yourself you'll be, don't eat ice cream with white clothes on.

Hope you enjoyed!!

Glittery Prom Nail Tutorial

Hey everyone! This is (finally!) a post series of what I did hair, makeup and nail-wise for prom. Starting with the nail tutorial! I picked a hot pink polish that matched my dress, but wanted to dress it up somehow. My dress has silver beads on it, and all my accessories were silver so I decided to put silver glitter on it in a gradient fashion. It's super easy, but definitely eye catching and fancy! You'll get tons of compliments on it. I did!

What you'll need: A base and top coat, nail polish in desired color, glitter in desired color, then a fan or small fluffy brush. Here I am using Claires loose glitter in silver, Sally Hanson Double Duty Strengthening base and top coat, Sally Hanson Laquer Shine Nail color, (It's a sample, so it has no name) and a small fluffy brush.

Apply base coat, then 2-3 coats of nail color.

While nail is still wet, dip the fan/fluffy brush in glitter, and dust over half of the nail, at a diagonal. The brush will help the glitter fade out into a gradient on its own.

Apply your top coat and that's it!! It's suuuuuper fast and easy.

I hope you enjoyed!! Seeya soon with how I did my hair for prom.

Spring Haul

Spring has definitely sprung where I live...actually, we completely skipped spring and it already feels like summer. It's very hot and humid. But that is normal weather for my state. I have been doing a lot of shopping for loose, summery clothes that will look great but keep me cool, because in my small town, I do a lot of walking everywhere, and I also like to romp around in big fields, goofing off and playing games with my friends.
Here are some of my finds!

This is an absolutely stunning necklace made of silver metal, blue beads and a turquoise stone. The little silver dangley findings make the best sound. This necklace looks pricey right? Well I got it for $10. No, it's no a typo. It was really that cheap! The lady I bought it from, Sue Dille, sells her items in Blacksburg, VA, but doesn't have a website or anything. She was at the little street festival my town holds, where lots of vendors come and sell their items along the streets. I was bummed, because I would LOVE to buy more of her items, but I am writing a letter asking if we could work something out between email and regular mail.

I purchased these earrings from Sue as well, for $8.50. So stunning. Now I just need to find an outfit to wear them with!

For a few years now, I was on the hunt every summer for white, perfectly fitted but not to pricey linen pants. I finally found them at my local resale shop for $6. AMAZING!! I absolutely LOVELOVELOVE them! They are great for summertime, so light and keep you cool. I wore an all white outfit to a little sidewalk festival we had, with some boho jewelry and my straw fedora. I will get some pictures up soon =)

These 2 tops were $4 each, at the resale shop again. They were originally for sale at walmart last summer. They are Op. I wanted them so bad, but was too slow and they sold out before I could snatch them up. But lucky me, they had both prints, my size at the shop!! I got them both of course =)

This is a great forever 21 top I got for $6 at the resale shop. Its quite long, and covers all of my shorts and skirts, so I wear it with my linen pants, or my black capris.

My Aunt Marie gave me this Clinique blush in Cupid. Its super pretty. Its just slightly shimmery, and its pink but also has a slight purple tint to it. To me at least.

Left is 2 swipes, right is 1.

Maybellene eye Quad in Designer Chocolates. Great for something subtle, but natural looking as well with mauve color for a little pop of something.

That is all for this spring haul, I hope you enjoyed!!
